I had an absolutely wonderful trip to Tobago once with my husband, Maurice. It was a holiday that I'll never forget.
It's the perfect place to go to escape the winter. I remember leaving a damp, grey Britain and touching down several hours later on this wonderfully warm, sunshine island that seemed worlds away.
It's so beautiful, with its balmy, crystal sea, palm trees and tropical climate. In a way, it's the sort of place you could imagine James Bond pitching up at – although I was with somebody much better looking: my husband.
Waking up to the sound of the sea lapping the shore was just idyllic, and we'd sit outside having breakfast and watch the exotic Caribbean birds help themselves to any little titbits that were on the ground.
A holiday in Tobago isn't really about running around seeing sights – I'm not much of a sightseer anyway. It's all about relaxing, enjoying the weather, eating healthily and going swimming or sunbathing.
The food on Tobago is out of this world, too – the mangoes, pineapples, you name it… and I remember eating a lot of tasty fresh fish. A good place to eat that we discovered is the Sea Horse Inn (639 0686;www.seahorseinntobago.com)
If you go, my tip is to take a few good books to read, and to be careful not to overdo the sun (10 minutes at a time at the most) – it's just so powerful. Having said that, when I first visited I spent so long roasting on the beach I must have looked like a chicken on a spit.
